The Central Library is attached to the Govt. Medical College, Thrissur is designed to provide health and scientific information to medical professionals, faculties, graduate and post graduate students and medical researchers of the institution. The vast amount of newly published medical literature available in the Central Library help the medical community to improve, update, assess or evaluate health care. 

 

Resources & Collections

The Central library containing more than 22877 books and 59 periodicals. The books are arranged according to the DDC Classification numbering system. It is completely computerised with Intranet and OPAC powered by full-featured open-source ILS Koha. The Central Library has access to ProQuest and Ovid databases, with hundreds of online journals and e-books, provided by DME, Kerala. The library is also a member of ERMED consortium of National Medical Library (NML). The Library is linked to National Knowledge Network and provides access to its patrons a wide range of electronic resources, print and digital journal collections and print reference books.

Membership

Membership is open to all the students and faculty of the Govt. Medical College, Thrissur. Library materials are issued to only Teaching Staff, Post Graduate students and UG Students. Provisional and guest lecturers are not permitted to borrow books from the library. However they are permitted to refer the library books. 
 

 

Lending of Books

 

Koha Library management software is used for lending out books.

Services & Facilities

 

  1. Open access – Readers can consult their required books from the shelves independently.
  2. Internet – Users can surf the Internet to access e-resources and download materials from the Internet.
  3. Reprography – The reprographic facilities are available for the students and faculty members for library documents/books only. Photocopy of class notes and personal books is prohibited.
  4. Current Awareness – The newly added books and journals are displayed for the convenience of students and faculty members.
  5. OPAC - Web OPAC searching facility through Koha Software has already been introduced. With this any one may surf Library Catalogue from anywhere and any time.
  6. Reference Section - A vide range of books having reference nature is kept apart for reference. Books belonging to this section shall on no account be taken away from the library by students.
  7. Book Bank section - A collection of books purchased from the grand of SC/ST department. Usage is restricted to SC/ST students
  8. Learning Recourse Centre - There is a air conditioned Learning Recourse Centre (LRC) attached with the Central Library. There are 20 computer systems with high speed Internet connection are available in this LRC and IT enabled services are provided here with free of cost. Members can browse Internet ,e-journals and other e resources like e books .
  9. E-Resources  - ProQuest Publications : 6776 ( 1800 Full Text Journals). Ovid Journals ( LWW, Medknow etc.) : 722 

 

Rules & Regulations

  1. Keep silence in the library.
  2. Foods and drinks are not allowed inside the library.
  3. Do not bring personal belongings (bags, file, umbrella, etc.) inside the library. Users are allowed to take only loose sheets of paper and pen for making notes.
  4. Users are requested to place their belongings in the property counter at the entrance.
  5. Members should not wear overcoats in the Library and can be kept the overcoats in the property counter.
  6. Members are requested to write their details in the Register kept in the entrance of the library while entering and leaving.
  7. All books must be checked for damage/ mutilation before borrowing. Any damage found should be reported to the librarian immediately. If any book is lost or damaged or mutilated the borrower shall be required to replace the book with fine
  8. Any book can be recalled at any time by the Librarian even if the period of loan has not expired
  9. Books should be physically produced before the counter for renewal. Books will be renewed only if there is non reservation for it.
  10. Library books and belonging except the book for return is not permitted to be brought inside the library, however laptops, notebooks and plain paper be permitted for taking notes and references.
  11. Books borrowed should be returned on or before the due date. Students may borrow books for a maximum of 14 days.
  12. Circulation is done from 9 am to 8:00 pm. from Monday to Saturday. Library is closed on Sundays and holidays.
  13. In case of delay in return of books an overdue fine of Rs. 1/- per working day will be charged.
