Overview & History

Established on 1st April 1982 with an intake of 74 MBBS students. Prof. Dr. Santhamma Abraham was the first Professor & Head of Department. Dr. V.V.Unnikrishnan, the present HoD, is also the Vice Principal. The Department, started in the Extension Training Centre at Mannuthy in 1982, was subsequently shifted to Mulankunnathukav in 1984. The new building was commissioned in 2017. 

The Department has a rich tradition of academic excellence. Presently it is a Post Graduate Department with an intake of 4 PG Students. It caters to an annual intake of 175 MBBS students. It has been consistently recognized by the erstwhile Indian Medical Council and the present National Medical Commission. There are several ongoing research projects in collaboration with other universities.
