About Department

Overview & History

The Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G) department continues to be one of the promising departments of Medical college, Thrissur. Since 1982, we have strived to improve and prosper. We pioneered endoscopy procedures since 1985,ultrasound facilities began in 1992, CTG machine installation by 1997. We conduct video laparoscopy since 1997. PPTCT clinic is functional from 2004 and our department was shifted to this campus on 19th December 2005. Colposcopy facilities was initiated in 2006. Laqshya guidelines are beingfollowed since 2019. Maternal health is of utmost importance in defining the overall health performance indices of our country and our department with deliveries over 2800 per year strictly practice respectful maternity care. We cater to over 35000 OPD patients and 7700 inpatients, and the numbers show a steady increasing trend. Of the 1300 gynecological surgeries performed per year, around 130 are oncosurgeries. More than 600 sterilisation procedures and nearly 150 MTP are performed annually. 2023 saw the inauguration of our HDU.We have been consistently striving towards excellance and updating with the latest developments in the field and is awaiting the new IMCH.
