Overview & History

Department started in 1984 utilizing the existing radiology   facilities of the District Hospital Thrissur.  Conventional radiology and fluoroscopy were theonly modality available at that time. 1000mAIITV Fluoroscopy was installed   in  1990. First   B/W Ultrasound machine   in 1992 and   colour Doppler in 1996. Single Slice Spiral CT scan and Mammography installed in 1997. PG course MD Radiodiagnosis wasstarted in 1997 with annual intake of two students. It was the first post Graduate course started in Government medical college, Thrissur. At present the annual intake is five. Department shifted to MG Kavu campus in 2005. New two 16 Slice MDCT installed in 2007 and 2015 respectively. DSA machine  and Digital radiography  procured in  2012. New DR-dual  panel(Two  numbers) , Digital fluoroscopy and 128 slice MDCT and 1.5 Tesla  MRI installed in 2023.Second  128  slice  MDCT  is  under  the  process of  installation,will be  commissioned  shortly. Department is fully equipped with all modern equipment required for conducting post graduate studies in Radiodiagnosis and  providing  patients  all  the  imaging  facilities expected  to  be  there in  tertiary  care  centre.

Following most  Modern Imaging  studies  are done in  the  department
