CLINICAL NURSING EDUCATION UNIT (CNEU)

CNE Unit of Govt. medical college Thrissur came in to action from 2020, but there is no specific structure or action plan, because CNE coordination was an extra burden for the concerned people. So the activities are conducted along with the regular duty of the coordinators.

But in 2022 august, administration decided to structure the CNEU, as part of this, selected one CNE co coordinator for all the activities instead of two.

HISTORY

On 30/8/2022, a meeting was conducted at NSO for planning and coordinating the CNEU activities.

The decisions were:

  1. Decided to give orientation programmes for the new joiners as first step.
  2. Decided to maintain proper registers.
  3. Decided to collaborate with HICC, to deliver HICC classes and trainings in coordination with CNE unit.
  4. Select link nurses from all wards/units for the coordination of CNE.
  5. To create a whatsapp group for link nurses for easy communication, inform all CNE activities through link nurses.
  6. Select nurses those who are capable and interested in teaching.
  7. To conduct assessments by daily ward rounds.
  8. To conduct periodic meetings with chief nursing officer and nursing superintendents.

As a first step, on 1/9/2022, nursing care conference was conducted on the topic 'In service education ; opportunities and challenges’ in coordination with Govt. College of Nursing Thrissur, at Govt. Medical College hospital Thrissur. 

Presently, CNEU provides Induction trainings, Class on specific topics, Infection control classes, etc.

TRAINING SESSIONS CONDUCTED

  1. Induction training for CNS and new joining employees.
  2. Safe injection practices.
  3. Device associated infections / injuries.
  4. Biomedical waste disposal. (IMAGE)
  5. Infection control practices.
  6. Standard precautions.
  7. Hand hygiene, hand washing.
  8. Intravenous access procedure and common mistakes.
  9. PPE.
  10. Basics of ventilator.
  11. Care of patient on ventilator.
  12. Familiarising electronic devices syringe pump, defibrillator, ventilators, infusion pump, HFNO, etc.
  13. Communication skills.
  14. Basic cleaning of equipments.
  15. Cleaning of hospital.
  16. Emergency medicines.
  17. Commonly used forms in the hospital.
  18. Nurses responsibility in records and reports.
  19. Death policy of our hospital.
  20. Occupational safety includes, Needle stick injury and need of vaccination.
  21. General awareness classes.
  22. Quiz programmes.
  23. In addition to the above sessions, CNEU arranged following classes/trainings :
    1. E-Health training
    2. 2. ABDM training
    3. Anti biotic awareness class
    4. Pain and palliative class
    5. MLSP Training

Every class were conducted as multiple sessions to ensure the complete participation from each category on daily basis. Also maintains attendance registers for the participants.

  • Introduces an ideal CRASH CART system and checklist
  • Hand hygiene audits
  • Part of Sanitary rounds
  • Part of orientation programmes
  • ABDM registrations
  • Selection of employees and other official arrangements for outside training programmes
  • ATELC, IMG etc.
  • Organises and supervise ward level health talks
  • Public awareness programmes
  • Daily ward rounds various assessments and inspections
  • Acts as a resource person for the employees
  • Various types of data entry
  • Participates in setting up of a new unit /system.
  • Collects and entry of various data, includes details of employees, status of wards and other units etc.

 

STATISTICS

In the period September 2022 to September 2023:

  • 126 classes/trainings were conducted
  • Attained a total attendance above 2200 among health care workers.

 

In the hospital CNEU works under the direct supervision of Chief Nursing Officer, In collaboration with HICC. The CNEU became one of the reasons for improving the Quality of care as well as the quality of the care givers, within the present limitations.
